Home Grown Kids (HGK) was a home education support group based in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville. Members were homeschooling families from many areas of North Florida: Mandarin, Southside, Orange Park, Julington Creek and the Beaches.  We were an inclusive group who met regularly to let our children play and learn while providing the parents with an opportunity to talk with each other. Families in our nonsectarian group used a variety of educational styles. Our group was not a co-op or an umbrella school. We did not charge membership dues.  We counted on our members to help organize and run activities.

Home Grown Kids was created to be a social group for homeschoolers.  HGK served that purpose for its era.  However, the homeschool community has changed.  HGK had a good run.  Over a hundred families passed through the group over the years.  HGKers went on dozens of field trips, did a few service projects, had parties, clubs, classes and enjoyed countless park days in all kinds of weather.
